2017: Redditch and Bromsgrove District Councils and their targeted initiative with the Environmental Services Depots

The district councils established an on-going programme of health and wellbeing awareness, activities and support for staff at the two Environmental Services depots in Bromsgrove and Redditch. The initiative was launched with the delivery of a comedy-based intervention regarding men’s health issues.  The sessions were supported by a range of resources signposting male staff help and support. Ping sets were provided to encourage activity, different campaigns were launched throughout the year and an eight-week charity weight loss competition was also held.

2018 winner Green Lighting and their healthy office canteen

2018: Green Lighting and their healthy office canteen

Green lighting opened 'the office canteen', an affordable healthy eating establishment in November 2017 following consultation with staff and local businesses. The business wanted to ensure that staff had healthy eating options available and weren't reliant on the mobile take away van or fast food outlets. In a recent staff poll, 100% of the green lighting workforce have enjoyed the healthy option food that the office canteen provides and 95% of staff stated that they have now started thinking about what they eat and the effects that it has on the body.

The office canteen has been well utilised by other local businesses and members of the public, offering not only healthy food choices but an opportunity for interacting with other organisations creating a real sense of community. Green lighting have been committed to gathering and acting on regular feedback including shifting to healthy items in the office snack box as requested by staff. Staff can also benefit from discounted healthy food at the end of the day. The initiative has led to a real culture shift within green lighting and also positively impacting on the wider community.
